Members of the Sunflower Memory Café were delighted to accept an invitation to visit the Romney Marsh Model Engineering Society on 29 September.
Our 28 clients, carers and volunteers enjoyed refreshments served by Ann and Sheila in the Society’s clubhouse, and a brief introduction from their Vice Chairman.
As well as a tour of the society’s train projects, a highlight of our visit was to take rides around the circular train track. The three engines - and their very knowledgeable drivers - were ‘steamed’ up and running, and many of our guests, accompanied by volunteers, sped round the track with others cheering on from the side-lines. We learnt about the coal used to power the trains (small anthracite from Wales), and enjoyed watching a model train running around the tracks, as well as a war tank and drone, which were also on display.
We all enjoyed a lovely buffet lunch, provided by Bakery 64 thanks to a generous donation from The Rotary Club of Romney Marsh, after which we were able to sit on the club house veranda and enjoy the lovely warm autumn sun. We would like to thank everyone in the society for the tremendous thought and effort that the Society members had given to our visit - a great day out for all and many happy memories made.
Our grateful thanks also to Peter Gallon and John Wimble who facilitated our visit and all Society members for their help and support on the day, as well as our wonderful volunteers.
