Our Commitment to Web Accessibility

Romney Marsh Community Hub is committed to providing a fully accessible website experience for users of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and alternative input devices to navigate the web.

Ongoing Efforts to Ensure Accessibility

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 as our benchmark for accessibility. These internationally recognised standards provide comprehensive recommendations for making web content more usable and accessible to everyone.

As we add new pages and features to our site, all design, development, and content entry are reviewed against WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.

Accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test and monitor our content using a range of tools and techniques, including:
• Accessibility Checker (WordPress plugin)
• Colour contrast analysers
• Keyboard-only navigation
• Flesch-Kincaid readability scoring

We address and fix any identified issues as part of our commitment to a more inclusive digital experience.

Accessibility Features on Our Website

We have implemented the following to support accessibility:
• The UserWay accessibility widget, with screen reader mode, contrast options, and text resizing
• Custom HTML elements for accessible navigation and buttons
• Clear and structured content for readability and comprehension
• Alt text for images, where appropriate
• Keyboard-navigable menus and interface elements

Where We’re Improving

We are actively working to improve the following areas:
• Ensuring consistent alt text for all images and graphics
• Improving keyboard focus indicators across all interactive elements
• Reviewing and enhancing form labels and error messaging
• Conducting periodic accessibility audits to catch emerging issues
• Reviewing PDF and embedded media accessibility

While we aim for full compliance, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third-party websites linked from our site.
