How to get in touch with the Romney Marsh Community Hub
Posted on Monday, July 19, 2021
As life slowly returns to normal, the Romney Marsh Community Hub invites those aged 50+ to come along and try something new with a varied programme of activities now on offer!
Jon Wilson, CEO of the Romney Marsh Community Hub:
“I am a firm believer in daily exercise, not just for the physical benefits, but for our mental health and overall wellbeing. I am delighted that we can invite people to get together in this way and I look forward to extending our programme of classes and activities in the coming months. Please do get in touch with us if there is a particular fitness class or activity you would like to see at the centre or if you are an instructor looking for a new venue!”
These classes are a great way for people over 50 to try new activities, socialise and make friends; while also maintaining their physical and mental wellbeing. Classes are currently available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays but plans are in place to offer further classes and alternative times.
All sessions are £5 (except for the Walking Group and Morris Dancing) and must be booked in advance by calling 01797 363888. Please check when calling whether you need to bring your own mat as this will depend on the class.
Visit and like our Facebook page to keep up to date with all the classes on offer.
Yoga – every Tuesday from 11am to midday
This is a gentle class and ideal for beginners. Yoga is a great exercise for the body and mind as it improves strength, balance, flexibility and reduces levels of stress. It can also ease pain and improve mobility for people with lower back issues; as well as ease discomfort from tender, swollen joints for people with arthritis.
Walking Group – every Tuesday from 10am (donation only)
Come and join the walking group; enjoy social conversations and then come back to the Hub for a well-earned cup of tea and slice of cake! All walking abilities welcome.
Pilates – every Wednesday from 3pm to 4pm
This is another gentle class with an emphasis on building your core strength. Pilates can improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility as well as relieve stress and tension. Pilates, like yoga, can help with back pain and also help those who suffer with anxiety and depression.
Tai Chi – every Thursday from 9.30am to 11am and Seated Tai Chi - 11am to midday
Studies have shown that regularly practising this Chinese martial art benefits seniors in several ways; it can improve flexibility, reduce symptoms of arthritis, effectively reduce stress and provide overall pain relief. It is a great choice if you are looking to improve your overall wellbeing.
Fitness – every Thursday from 2pm to 3pm
Come along to this fun class to socialise and get fit with friends.
Line Dancing – every Thursday from 4pm to 5.30pm
Join us on Thursday afternoons and very soon you’ll know the difference between the two-step and the Cowboy Cha Cha! Not only is line dancing a huge amount of fun, it is also great for your physical and mental wellbeing. Though you are moving constantly during the dances, it is easy on the joints and it can reduce stress levels, increase energy levels, improve strength and decrease blood pressure. Come along and give it a go cowboy boots optional!
Singing for wellbeing - fun sessions for all, even if you think you cannot sing!
Morris Dancing – every Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm starting 25 August until 29 September - £3 including tea/coffee
Come along and find out about Morris Dancing! Learn some steps and by the end of the six-week course you will be able to do a whole dance! An enjoyable way to keep fit, active and make friends.
