The Romney Marsh Community Hub launched its Heat and Eat appeal at the end of November 2022 and has raised over £3,500 in donations from the local community to date.

The appeal was launched in response to the increasingly challenging times facing older people who reside on the Marsh, and who are struggling to cope with the rising costs of living.

Jon Wilson is the Hub’s CEO

“We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of people across the Romney Marsh who have supported our campaign. This winter has been tough for so many – including those who have donated – and we cannot stress enough how much of a difference this support will make to the services we offer here at the Hub and within the community. The money raised from the Heat and Eat Appeal will help these services continue and everyone here at the Hub would like to thank all those who have donated - thank you!”

He continues:

‘We are striving to offer a safe, caring environment for older people across the Marsh, as well as provide access to services that will not only help improve health and wellbeing but also reduce the feeling of social isolation felt by so many. From activities and fitness, to support services and advice, the Hub gives people a chance to forge friendships; for many attendees who live in rural villages this might be their only social opportunity in an otherwise lonely week. People can enjoy hot home cooked nutritious meals in our restaurant and, for those that are unable to come to us, we provide a community hot meals service daily across the Romney Marsh area, which also serves as a welfare check.

The Heat and Eat Appeal ends on 31 March 2023. Donations will help to ensure that the Romney Marsh Community Hub is able to continue:

  • Provide the opportunity to take part in a variety of exercise classes and specialist interest groups.
  • Being a safe place for people to keep warm during the day without the worry that they might have about their energy bills.
  • Providing a transport service which enables anyone from across the Marsh to access our hub.
  • Offering an information and advice service – helping our attendees understand their rights and what services and benefits they may be entitled to.

How to donate

Donations can still be made online or by sending a cheque to The Romney Marsh Community Hub in an envelope marked ‘Heat and Eat Appeal’ to Sunflower House, Rolfe Lane, New Romney. Kent TN28 8JR.
